Mini Chain Saws

A new tool on the market are the popular Cordless 18volt battery operated chain saw.

A very handy piece of equipment for doing all the small pruning jobs around the farm , orchards  and estates.

There are 2 sizes of guide bars  4" and 6" and they both use 1/4" chains in a .043 drive link thickness.

These may be a bit hard to find if you need a new chain or guide bar, but fear not help is at hand to find you the correct chain and bar.

Please do not take any notice of the voltage printed on the battery base. All these saws just have an 18 volt system.
The UK market requires sellers to only sell these saws that have a lock off button. This stops the saw from accidentally being run and the chain engaged. You have to press the button to release the throttle trigger .
At present I can only find models that fit right handed users, and no left handers are available.

Some of these saws come with a flat plastic guard over the chain and other brands come with a plastic square grid over the saw . The advantage of the latter is that when you use the saw to cut upwards you can do so. With the flat guard over the chain this is not possible.

The cutting time and battery use is very good enabling you cut a large amount of prunings. I would say a good 2 hours of continuous use, cutting all sizes of branches and small logs.

One point I have to mention is that all these models do not have a built in oil reservoir to lubricate the chain as in normal 2 stroke chain saws.
One method I have found to remedy this is to carry a small 50ml plastic bottle ( sewing machine oil bottle ) with you and just oil the chain as and when needed.
